Building Department
The Engineering Department and Building Inspector are responsible for the issuance of building permits, conducting inspections, issuing stop-work orders, following and enforcing IBC (International Building Codes) and city codes and ordinances.
*An inspection cannot be conducted without a building permit being issued first*
The Engineering Department is responsible for issuing building permits for all structures built, repaired, altered, or demolished within the city limits of Belle Fourche.

The Building Inspector is responsible for inspecting all phases of construction.
The City of Belle Fourche has adopted the 2021 IRC (City ordinance number 15.04-Building Regulations, with exceptions #1 - 13), 2021 Fire Code and 2021 Maintenance Code.
The Building Inspector does not conduct electrical or plumbing inspections.
The Engineering Department can provide lists of South Dakota state electrical and plumbing inspectors upon request.
